About Me

My photo
Durham, NC
After graduating from the University of Mobile in 1985 I started a career as an artist. My life consisted of Easel painting, Murals, Trompe l'oeil and faux finishes. I did this for 18 years until reaching a point of creatively burning out. I painted nothing of substance for almost 7 years. In January of 2010 things happened to open my eyes to the beauty around me and a deep desire to paint again. This blog will be dedicated to my new work. Paintings that are for me and my pleasure and the pleasure of others and not for a pay check. My hope is that this will help to keep the work fresh and of true vision.

Frostbite Regatta

Crossing
Acrylic on canvas

Tony Alderman

About a year ago I got this idea stuck in my head.  I wanted to capture images of sail boats while on another boat so that the paintings I painted would have a real feeling of movement and energy.  Well after a lot of talk with people and 3 trips to the coast I was finally able to make some headway.  In November I was able to ride on the safety boat in the “Frostbite Regatta” sponsored by the Cape Fear Yacht Club in Southport NC.  I came away with some wonderful pictures and enough material to keep me painting until spring when I go back for the first regatta of 2012.  This painting is the first in the series from the regatta and I will post more as I go along.  I hope you enjoy it.
